Berwick rolls to big title

24 Aug, 2009 09:45 AM
INDOOR biased bowls pairs Nigel Cowdery (main picture) and Duncan Dickson (inset) have earned the Berwick Bowls Club's first state title.

Last month, the pair won the Victorian Indoor Biased Bowls Association men's pair championships.

The game, similar to outdoor bowls, but "far less aggressive", is a game of precision and skill. "Last year, we made the semi-finals, so this year we wanted to go one better and we did," Cowdery said.

"On the way to the finals we beat the Victorian pair champions and some other state players, so there was not tough competition."

Dickson says that although the sport is competitive it is the social aspect that is most enjoyable.

The pair now have their sights set on earning a place in the state team when trials start next June.
