Wily octogenarian trots away with another major award

14 Sep, 2009 01:12 PM
PROMISING pacer Pocket Legend's win in the Cranbourne Horse Of The Year Award has provided veteran Narre Warren trainer Arthur Fullwood with his second home-track title in as many years.

In 2007-08, Veranjee built a remarkable record at Cranbourne as he worked his way through the classes to claim Horse Of The Year honours.

Fullwood followed a similar path with Pocket Legend in 2008-09, recording three wins and nine placings from 17 starts over the year.

The wily octogenarian has even gone so far as to suggest the club might like to consider ordering an extra rug or two in his distinctive purple and gold colours as he sets his sights on further success in the seasons ahead. Not bad for a gent who turns 90 next year!

In other award news from Cranbourne, the formidable "green tea" of Jayne Davies and Chris Alford stormed home to take out the Trainer Of The Year Award and Driver Of The Year Award respectively.

Leading into the final meeting of the season, Davies held a slender one-point lead over Dean Braun and Lance Justice in the trainers premiership.

However Davies and Alford combined to win four races on the 28 August program to score runaway victories in the awards.
