Golf day tees up a bonanza

09 Mar, 2010 10:59 AM
SHELTER Box, the Rotary Club of Endeavour Hills-backed aid project, has received a fillip from local golfers.

Organisers said about $18,000 or had been raised at the Bev Marks Australia and the Rotary club charity golf day at Cranbourne Golf Club on Monday last week.

More than 100 golfers took part, with a team led by former jockey and Melbourne Cup-winner Michael Clarke winning the Journal teams event for Applied Climate Control of Dandenong.

Clarke also had his father and horse trainer Arthur in the team.

Father and son topped the day by being winner and runner-up in B grade.

Organising committee president Peter Verey said the event had been very successful.

"At this stage it looks as if we have raised in the order of $18,000, with Shelter Box being the main beneficiary."

The winners and runners-up were: A grade: N Baxter, C Angwin. B grade: M Clarke, A Clarke. C grade: R Housman, J O'Reilly. Calloway: D Martin, M Fox.

The Journal teams event: Applied Climate Control (M Clark, A Clark, D Peters, C Raze), Power Aid (S Thomson, D Ringi, R Housman, P Nathan). Longest drive second hole: S Grenda. Longest straightest drive ninth hole: M Levin.

Nearest the pin eighth hole: C O'Sullivan. Nearest the pin 17th hole: L Reedman.
