FOR most, bows and arrows are for Robin Hood or cowboys and Indians, yet Berwick schoolboy Jordan Rodgers begs to differ.
The 15-year-old who took up archery little more than four years ago is the state's under-16 champion.
The award judged on the entire season's performance is testament to Jordan's consistency in all conditions.
"It only takes a small gust of wind to slow the arrow or blow it off course," he said.
Jordan's hidden talent and enthusiasm became evident during a grade 6 camp activity.
His passion was then fuelled from watching the 2004 Olympics and Australia's Simon Fairweather - Sydney gold medallist - compete.
Following the Olympics Jordan persuaded his dad, Graham, to let him take up the sport and join the Sherbrooke Archery Club.
His interest and commitment enticed Graham, who had a fleeting interest as a youth, to also take up the sport.
To date, Jordan has won silver at the 2006 State Indoor Championship, bronze at the 2007 short range tournament and silver at the 2007 State Clout Championships.
Consistency in all competitions has guided Jordan to receive Sherbrooke's 2007 archer of the year award.
While the level-headed teenager is committed to representing Australia, his sights aren't set on 2010 Commonwealth Games in India because that would interrupt his final year at school.
"I'm only young. Archers can be at their peak for 20 or 30 years, so there's no rush."
Jordan trains at the Sherbrooke Archery Club with his father and coach.
"My coach watches me shoot and gives me tips on how to improve. His knowledge and expertise are vital during the season."
