THE Casey Comets lost to the Eastern Lions 3-2 in a hard-fought, highly entertaining game on Saturday.
Both teams were coming off recent wins and were well clear of relegation zone in the state league Division 2 south-east division.
The Comets got off to a great start when Brendan Elmazovski gave them the lead with a well-taken goal inside the box. On the half-hour mark, the Lions drew level when Nick Bouios latched on to a Marty O'Hare through-ball and knocked it past Ashley Hupe in the Comets goal.
Both midfields struggled for control in the second half, but it was Paul Presti who got the Comets back on track when he outwitted his marker and slotted it past the Lions' goalkeeper.
Despite being in control, the Comets couldn't find another goal to kill off the visitors. On the hour mark, Oran Harel broke down the right flank for the Lions and his low drive was bundled into the net by Muya Nyadzayo to level the scores.
It was all the Lions as they stepped up a gear and started pressing forward. With 10 minutes to go they got the winning goal when, after a succession of corners, Nyadzayo found space inside the six-yard box and he belted it into the net.
The reserves continued their good form with another win against a stiff opposition.
