CASEY Comets won a shoot-out against Heatherton United 5-4 in trying conditions on Saturday.
The Comets took the lead early when captain Tony Saunders caught the home defence napping and his quickly taken free kick found the back of the net. They increased their lead just before half-time through Liam Ryan in his first game back from injury.
Within 16 minutes of the second half, Heatherton was in front after scoring three quick goals. Casey levelled the score through Brendan Elmazovski. With six minutes left in the game, things got a little heated outside the Comets box when a free kick was awarded to Heatherton. Mirzat Skenderovic put it past the Comets' keeper to lead 4-3.
Scores were level again after an own by Heatherton and with Casey pressing hard, Paul Presti scored the winning goal.
The reserves made it two wins on the trot with a 2-1 win against a spirited Heatherton. Moving Musti Nader from midfield to striker did the trick for the Comets. He scored both goals in the second half.
The Comets will hold their annual president's lunch on Saturday when they have a home game against the Eastern Lions. Guest speaker will be Melbourne Heart chief executive Scott Munn. Call Jim Wilson on 0400 814 655 for tickets.
