Wickers overwhelm Narre Warren

BERWICK won five out of its six matches against Narre Warren in round 14 of the Casey Cardinia Netball League.

The game of the day was the under 17s with both teams needing to win to stay in finals contention with Narre Warren winning by a goal in a thriller.

A grade defeated Narre Warren 51-15. The Wickers set up their win after jumping to a 10-goal lead in the first quarter while keeping the opposition to a single goal in what was a tremendous team effort led by Rebecca Vickers.

B grade continued the winning streak, defeating Narre Warren in 39-36 in a physical encounter. Both sides went goal for goal early but after making some changes the Wickers powered away in the second half.

Judy Cooper, Sharon McCormick, and Tara Anderson were best on court for Berwick.

C grade made it hat-trick of wins, defeating Narre 48-21.

Katrina Routley was unstoppable in goal shooter, shooting at 90per cent for the game and was ably assisted by Virginia Hester in goal attack.

Berwick led by 10 goals at half time and finished the game full of running. Katrina Routley, Jenny Randle and Tanya Craig were standouts in the Wickers' win.

The under 17s lost to Narre Warren 29-30 in a thriller. Berwick started well but Narre Warren fought back and the lead changed several times. Both sides went goal for goal in the last quarter, but at full time Narre Warren had won by the barest of margins. Cheyenne Douglas, Melissa McCormick and Emma Clarke were among Berwick's best.

The under 15s won 37-9. The mid-court players moved the ball swiftly down the court with the goalers shot well under pressure from Narre Warren.

The defenders caused many turnovers resulting in goals in what was team efforts led by Megan Dyker, Emily Pratt and Taylor Shannon

The under 13s won 35-8 in windy, cold conditions. The Wickers trailed by four goals at the first break, but warmed to the task and the conditions in the last three-quarters. Defenders Stacey Hargreaves, Carly Notley, and Teagan Pike worked tirelessly.
