DANDENONG Stingrays star Matt Buntine was rewarded for his outstanding TAC Cup season, with Greater Western Sydney swooping on the tough defender.
Buntine, 18, was one of four Stingrays taken in Thursday night's AFL national draft. Frankston teenager Nick Haynes was also being picked up by the Giants.
The Giants, who had 11 of the first 14 picks, took Eastern Ranges prodigy Jon Patton with the No.1 pick.
While Buntine's draft dream came true on Thursday night, Beaconsfield's Alex Benbow missed out, with the Morrish Medal winner now sweating on next month's rookie draft.
Buntine, from Berwick, is regarded as a excellent reader of the play and oozes leadership potential, which is sure to have caught the eye of Giants' list manager Stephen Silvagni.
"With 11 of the first 14 selections we have been able to secure some of the finest young talent in Australia," he said.
"We have recruited an excellent mix of young midfielders, forwards and defenders and together with our existing players it makes for a very exciting future."
Giants chief executive David Matthews said his club would do everything in its power to help the players settle into the club's accommodation at Breakfast Point.
"Tonight these young men have realised their ambition to be drafted by an AFL club.
"The Giants will now do everything we can to support, develop and help them take the next step and achieve their dream to play AFL football."
