 Junior sets high standard

Junior sets high standard

31 Aug, 2009 10:18 AM
A NARRE Warren junior footballer has won the Dandenong and District Junior Football League's best and fairest award for the third time.

Corie Intveen, of Beaconsfield, who plays for the under-15 premier side, won the award by one vote beating Noble Park's Yilber Zijai.

The ruckman, whose team has won the title for the past two years, follows Essendon in the AFL.

The Berwick High pupil represented Victoria in the School Sport Australia 15-and-under championships in Queensland earlier this year.

"It is good being part of a winning team and it shows how we work to stay on the top. Playing in the Victorian team was a great experience for me and I hope to build on it."

Corie started playing football at the age of seven because of his father's interest in the game and followed it on television.

"You've got to have fun while playing but not take it as a joke. Be serious as there are so many guys out there who want to make it.

"If you work hard and focus on putting all your effort into something it pays off. I hope to go professional, but I know I have to work hard."

Corie has a few weeks off before he starts training again for next season.
