Berwick's Nathan Broeren won a silver medal on the first day of competition at the INAS Global Games - for athletes with an intellectual disability - in Liberec, Czech Republic.
In his first international event, Broeren claimed silver in the short time trial. He will now set his sights on gold in the 35kilometre short road race this Thursday.
The 19-year-old took up cycling as a hobby and developed a passion for the competitive sport.
