Tail-enders seal win

16 Feb, 2010 09:47 AM
DANDENONG enhanced its reputation as Melbourne's most talented suburban cricket association by winning back-to-back Neil Wright Shields.

The DDCA under-21 team defeated the top side North Metro by eight runs in a thriller at Toorak Park in Armadale.

Batting first, the DDCA was deep in trouble at 6-79, before the tail-enders came to the rescue and added a valuable 101. Narre Warren's Jarryd Leworthy top-scored with 45 while No. 10 batsman and Journal Cricketer of the Week winner, Jonathon Rudge of Hampton Park, chimed in with 19 to steer Dandenong to a respectable 180.

At 3-98, North Metro looked on track for a win, but lost 4-28 to be 7-126 . The team clawed its way back to 7-171 but lost its last two wickets to be all out for 172.
