Both teams threw some young faces into their line-ups with the Swans and Frankston Peninsula out of finals calculations.

Casey-South Melbourne batted first and compiled 7-142. Dimitri Deane (32) top-scored and Shane Maggs (20), Adam Hanger (22) and stand-in skipper Clive Rose (24) were all strong contributors.

"It was good to get a win over Frankston. We had a heap of youngs guys up from the seconds and thirds," Rose said.

"The way that it is fixtured it is hard for a lot of guys to get the time off work and we wanted to give a few guys a rest because they have played a lot of cricket."

Rose captained the Swans in the absence of regular skipper Jake Best and then backed it up superbly with the ball, snaring 4-15 from 3.2 overs, including the wickets of both openers.

Rose continually took Heat wickets and Chris Benedek (2-20) and Lachlan Sperling (2-24) provided apt support for the talented spinner.

Benedek and Sperling showed the future is bright in the spinning ranks for the Heat with both likely to push for a more regular senior berth in the coming months. "Benedek bowled really well and Lachy Sterling bowled really well," Rose said.

Casey-South Melbourne is due to resume from the Christmas break on January 7 with a one-day clash against Essendon at Casey Fields.

Rose said he was enjoying the challenge of leading the Swans in the absence of Best after making his debut as skipper in the Twenty20 loss to Ringwood on December 7.
