HE'S certainly leaner, but Dandenong skipper Darren Dempsey showed he's also meaner by smashing 95 off Melbourne in round 2 of Premier Cricket's Kookaburra Twenty20 Cup last Wednesday night.
Dempsey shed 12 kilograms during the off-season and has shown a steely resolve to his batting.
Batting on a flat Shepley Oval track, he smashed seven fours and four sixes off 65 balls, and looked on track to score his maiden Twenty20 century until he was caught on the boundary in the final over.
Dempsey and young Tom Donnell put on 14 in just 13.2 overs before Donnell was out for 46. The Panthers' total of 3-187 was always going to be big ask and it proved that way.
The in-form and also leaner Brent Fairbanks, bowled an exacting line and length that had the batsmen guessing and finished with 4-29 off just four overs to help shoot out the Demons 125.
