Reserve facelift passed to next council

Reserve facelift passed to next council

24 Nov, 2008 11:25 AM
A REPORT by Casey Council officers recommending against spending $160,000 to make the Amberly Reserve cricket field playable has been shelved until the new council has been installed after this month's election.

Cr Michael Farley had called for the report after

the Narre Warren South

field was declared unplayable by the Dandenong District Cricket Association.

The ruling has forced two under-11 teams from the Berwick Springs and Maranatha Methodist cricket clubs to use the second reserve ground at the Donnelly Reserve in Cranbourne North.

A written report presented at a council meeting last Tuesday found the only way to overcome the rough terrain would be to close the field for the 2008-09 season and spend $160,000 on establishing drought-resistant grass.

"The cost ... could not be justified against the current quality of other higher level grounds in the municipality," the report concluded.

Cr Farley successfully moved for the $160,000 needed to reinstate the

field to be considered

by the incoming council

at the mid-year budget review.

"We have spent a lot of money so far.

"To just stop here and not go forward would make it a total waste of money," he said.
