NARRE Warren is in a strong position after day one of its Dandenong District Cricket Association clash against North Dandenong at Sweeney Reserve.
The Magpies compiled 9-258 from their 80 overs with James Giertz top-scoring with 68 after his team was in serious early trouble. The home team had slumped to 6-91 and the signs were not looking good after Dushan Wickramaratne (50) was dismissed. But Giertz and Omar Baker (48) put on 86 for the seventh wicket to rescue the Magpies.
Steve Woodward (26 not out) and Jarryd Straker (16 not out) then frustrated North Dandenong with a handy final-wicket stand. The pick of the North Dandenong bowlers was Glen Pepper (3-57).
Heinz South Districts need another 141 to defeat Mordialloc, Hallam Kalora Park compiled 6-272 and Keysborough made 2-5 in reply, Parkfield is 7-62 chasing Dandenong West's 107. Doveton is 3-24 chasing Buckley' Ridges 184.
