BERWICK has a fight on its hands to make the Dandenong and District Cricket Association top four after the weather continuously disrupted its must-win clash against Keysborough.
The Wickers restricted Keysborough to 5-125 at Arch Brown Reserve on Sunday but the rainy conditions frustrated players as only 57 overs were bowled for the day.
Under DDCA rules 60 overs must be bowled for the day's play to be considered completed, meaning Keysborough's innings will continue on Sunday.
Despite Berwick sitting second on the ladder, it could fall out of the top four if Keysborough can cause an upset or force a draw.
Wickers captain Jarrod Goodes said early wickets were the key, and the incumbent batsmen Alex Deuchar (12 not out) and Crispin Gilles (3 not out) needed to be removed quickly.
"It's so tight if we don't get the full six points - teams around us could overtake us," he said.
"I have never seen a season this close - any teams down to eight or nine could still play in the finals.
"We've got five down at the moment and we need to break this partnership and get a few early ones."
The Wickers struggled with the wet ball while the Keysborough batsmen found it hard to find any rhythm with Ash Henry (2-29) and Goodes (2-24) piling on the pressure.
"We were on and off the ground - it was stop-start until 5pm," Goodes said.
"The ball got pretty wet and made it pretty hard but we've still got to push through."
Parkfield is 4-62 in its clash against Narre Warren with only 36 overs being bowled for the day, Magpies' Dushan Wickramaratne claiming 3-16 from 13 overs.
Doveton was bowled out for 190 in its match against Mordialloc with the home team to resume at 0-4 in the run chase.
North Dandenong is 0-23 chasing Dandenong West's 125 while Buckley Ridges is 2-16 chasing Heinz Southern Districts' 155.
Springvale South made 242 against Hallam Kalora Park.
■ The Dandenong and District Cricket Association defeated Premier Cricket team Dandenong Panthers by 34 runs at Shepley Oval on Wednesday night.
The DDCA batted first and made 4-165 with Coomoora's Rob Johnston smashing 60.
The Panthers were then restricted to 8-131 with Parkfield's Steve Spoljaric claiming 4-26.
The DDCA will clash with the West Gippsland Cricket Association in an annual fixture that will be held on February 29 at Hallam.
