THE Dandenong Rangers have proved to be the best known and popular Women's National Basketball League club in Australia.
Figures released at a league conference in Sydney last month revealed that the Rangers had more hits on the WNBL website than any of the 10affiliated clubs.
General manager Peter Roach said the results were a "coup'' for the club and enhanced its reputation as being the most successful, and high-profile club in the competition.
"It's an amazing result for a club located in Dandenong to be the best known and popular WNBL club in Australia.
"People around Australia have identified with the Rangers despite us not winning the title last year and not having a ridiculously high-profile player like a Lauren Jackson or Penny Taylor, other than Emily McInerney.''
Roach said the website survey revealed the most hits came from the Cranbourne area and that there were plans to expand the club's supporter, sponsorship, and community involvement programs to cultivate its new, emerging supporter base in Casey's growth corridor.
"The interest in Cranbourne is reflected in that we have a number of players from Casey who access the Dandenong Basketball Stadium. On average we have about 13,000 people coming through the stadium a week.''
Roach said the Rangers and Dandenong Basketball Association, was at the "forefront'' of internet technology after the introduction earlier in the year of live website coverage of games and player and online statistics.
