Youth booked for graffiti

29 Jun, 2009 10:44 AM
A CASEY graffiti clamp-down has resulted in a teenager being charged over $34,000 worth of graffiti damage, police said last Friday.

Police charged a 19-year-old Berwick man on June 4 with two counts of theft and five counts of criminal damage.

The arrest comes as Casey response unit members continue to clamp down on graffiti with the co-operation of Casey Council.

"In the two years we've been targeting graffiti crime we've nabbed many offenders and we will continue to do so until people get the message," Leading Senior Constable Christopher Blazevic said.

Former Casey councillor Steve Beardon, who spearheaded anti-graffiti campaigns, welcomed the arrest.

"These vandals need to learn that Casey is a zero-tolerance graffiti zone."
