A WORKING bee to fireproof Blind Bight - in which Casey Mayor Geoff Ablett lent a hand - has created a stir in the coastal village community.
Several residents have expressed concern at the extent of the tidy-up of cleared vegetation and to express disappointment that Cr Ablett helped out at the event at the Blind Bight Community Centre last Sunday week.
"I have no problem with a reasonable firebreak around the building but what they have done is way in excess of that," said one resident, who did not want to be identified.
Another resident was upset that clearing up had extended right down to the foreshore.
But organiser Bob Wray said he and "the people of Blind Bight" were grateful for the firebreaks ahead of a threatening fire season.
While the working bee had focused on the community centre, Casey Council had cleared sallow wattle and other fire hazards from the foreshore, he said.
