 Victims: speak up

Victims: speak up

16 Feb, 2009 10:06 AM
POLICE have urged fire-affected residents in Narre Warren who have been victims of looting to come forward.

By noon last Friday, only one official report had been made to police, Casey crime investigation unit's Detective Acting Sergeant Mark Sims said.

"But when we have been out speaking to people, looting stories are filtering through," he said. "We encourage people to come forward and contact us."

He said police were hearing anecdotal evidence of looting from garages and homes.

Detective Acting Sergeant Sims said police were continuing to conduct extra patrols in affected areas to deter thieves.

The single report concerned the theft of a phone and possibly jewellery from a home soon after the fire.

Narre Warren South resident Janeen Cooke said looters had definitely stolen property from residents in Langbourne Drive, the worst-affected street.
