Two to face court over firearms charges

24 Feb, 2008 11:00 PM
A DEVON Meadows man has turned himself into police over the shooting of a Cranbourne woman at a Berwick restaurant last month.

The man, 22, walked into a Casey police station on Saturday, February 9, after the incident was given extensive media coverage. He told police he had used a slug gun to target farm animals and people over a three-week period.

As reported in the Journal, a woman, 32, was shot in the chin by a slug gun that was fired into a group of people outside Benos restaurant in High Street, Berwick, on Australia Day.

Detective Sergeant Garry Kear, of Narre Warren police, said the woman was lucky not to have suffered more injuries.

``She could have lost her sight.''

The offender and a Hampton Park woman, 19, have been charged with firearms offences, aggravated cruelty and causing serious injury.

They have been bailed to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
