Top mark for new school

21 Dec, 2009 03:00 AM
BERWICK Chase Primary School had its official opening last Tuesday, even though it had opened its doors to pupils at the start of the year.

Education Minister Bronwyn Pike visited the $7.3 million school, calling it "a shining example of state schools built in partnership with the Commonwealth to provide better education facilities".

The State Government contributed $4.6 million to the project, with the Federal Government chipping in the remaining $2.7 million.

The school has 16 classrooms, an art, craft and music space, library, physical education area, staff administration offices, canteen and toilets.

"The state-of-the-art classrooms have been designed to support modern teaching and are both open and flexible, with separate learning spaces for small groups," Ms Pike said.

"Schools are central to their communities and that is why Berwick Chase Primary also has facilities that will be shared with the local community.

"We agree with parents that there is nothing more important than their child's education."

The school was awarded the Best Primary School Design at the Victorian School Design Awards earlier this year.
