 Tiny possums get a hand

Tiny possums get a hand

25 May, 2009 10:21 AM
A GROUP of students is working for the survival of the Leadbeater's possum through tree planting programs and fund-raising.

The four girls, all 12, from Beaconhills College Berwick campus have formed a group called HELP - Helping the Endangered Leadbeater's Possum. They are working to replace nesting boxes destroyed by the bushfires.

Emerald sisters Ellie and Mollie Travica, Berwick's Emma Falkenberg and Kallista's Elly Robertson have just finished a tree-planting exercise at the Yellingbo state fauna reserve.

The girls plan to raise money to buy nesting boxes, costing $150 each, to house the tiny possum.

It is believed that there are less than 3000 Leadbeater's possums in the wild.
