THE mayor of Casey has moved to prevent any suggestions of councillor "overkill" in travelling interstate by councillors.
Cr Sam Aziz called for a report on council's conference policy at the council's meeting on Tuesday.
Due at the February 21 council meeting, the report will review council's policy on training, education and promotion of Casey at conferences.
Cr Aziz said he wanted to impose a two-councillor maximum on on interstate conferences, which would be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
"There is no ceiling in place as to the number of councillors.
"This is looking at what would be considered overkill."
At a council meeting last month, councillors approved travel and accommodation expenses for four councillors - Wayne Smith, Bob Halsall, Judy Owen and Beverley Hastie - to attend an Australian Suicide Prevention Conference in Cairns in June.
Each councillor was approved $500 in travel costs, $1000 in accommodation and $484 in conference registration.
Cr Aziz said the review was exclusive of councillors travelling overseas, which was banned entirely under council policy.
He said two councillors would be "more than enough" to attend any conference.
"I think that it's embarrassing for us with the global financial crisis and people losing their jobs for us to be exhibiting such largesse. It's not a good look."
Cr Aziz said he also wanted to tighten reporting requirements on conference travel through a standard report pro forma that clearly showed the benefit of the trip to Casey and its residents.
The motion was carried unanimously.
