Chairman of the Hampton Park road committee Tony O'Hara said the march would go ahead grant permission.

Mr O'Hara said the latest accident was yet another reason residents had been calling for years for the duplication works to be undertaken, particularly between Pound Road to Coral Drive.

While welcoming the prospect of traffic lights at the intersection, Mr O'Hara was disappointed the State Government ruled out considering the duplication last week.

Residents and local community groups planning the march would not stop pressuring the Government for the measure, he said. "The unfortunate truth is people have to die to get action sometimes," he said.

If the protest goes ahead, marchers will meet at the crash site at 10am for a memorial service. They will then make their way to StKevin's Church car park, where speakers will address the gathering and signatures gathered for a petition.
