Theft warning

27 Jul, 2009 09:47 AM
A SPATE of home burglaries and thefts during the past week has prompted police to call on residents and business owners to secure their properties.

Acting Senior Sergeant David Smith said the "unusually high" number of incidents included thefts from the senior citizens club in James Street and a dental office in Henry Street, Pakenham.

Incidents included the theft of cash and soft drinks.

A number of residential burglaries were also reported.

The items stolen included a chainsaw, car fridge, cash, a mobile phone, electrical equipment, plasma TV, amplifier and DVD player.

Acting Senior Sergeant Smith said some incidents were forced entries, but residents need to take greater responsibility for securing their premises.

"This extends to locking doors, windows and to securing vehicles when parked at railway stations and outside residences."
