TALENTED teen Tara Leigh Dowler hopes a fund-raising concert this Friday will be the launching pad to her quest for a recording career.
Sponsored by the City of Casey, LaunchPad 09 features the 16-year-old indie-rock artist and guest performers Brothers in Harmony, Chelsea Adams, Dorian Gray, Jessica-Jade Bruce, Silver Reasons and Tyla Bertolli.
Tara, a Kambrya College student from Berwick, said concert-goers were in for a high energy fusion of rock and pop.
The proceeds will go towards the thousands of dollars she needs to achieve a recording deal.
"I have to pay for a development contract I have with the Byrneside/Universal Music label and to produce an EP of my music," Tara said.
"But if I sell 2000 copies I will automatically get a three-album deal."
In a separate project, she hopes to fly to Nashville at the end of the year to support a major act in a promotional tour.
The dedicated singer-songwriter concedes it is a balancing act combining her VCE studies with her plans for a music career.
"Sometimes I feel there are certain things that have to be sacrificed," she said.
Casey councillor Wayne Smith said the council was happy to support such a talented, young performer.
"It's about giving an opportunity for very little cost from the council's point of view."
Casey Council will provide the venue from one of its own free allocations and chip in about $500 to pay for sound and lighting technicians and other costs.
Doors open at the Cranbourne Community Theatre in Brunt Street at 7pm.
Tickets $10. Bookings: 1800 235 369. Any tickets remaining will be sold at the door.
