YEARS of dedication and hard work have paid off for Berwick's Tara Dowler. This week she launched her first single and the music video to go with it.
The Kambrya College student, 17, was one of 12 young people selected to produce their single and clip through an Uncovered project - a program run in conjunction with Melbourne's Studio 52.
"It was really cool filming it," said Dowler, who was given much of the creative licence to produce her self-composed track My Piano and two different clips filmed at Berwick's Old Cheese Factory.
Dowler, who regularly plays gigs at the Berwick Inn and other pubs in Casey and Cardinia Shire, is happy her music career has progressed and that her hard work is paying off.
"There are a lot of people who say they want to do this [recording/singing], but so much is about luck and the rest is what you put into it.
"Last year I was offered a contract by an indie label but it didn't quite work out the way it should have, so I decided to release an EP myself.
"It's a matter of taking as many opportunities as possible.
"I've been selected as one of 200 artists to take part in the two-day Dream Inc workshops In August.
"These will give me access to huge Australian acts such as Marcia Hines and Sneaky Sound System plus industry people such as Michael Gudinski of Mushroom Records."
