LOCAL sports groups that use Casey Fields have won an unexpected bonus in Casey's $198 million budget for 2009-10. The draft budget, released for public comment, was adopted last Tuesday at a special council meeting.
The average proposed rate rise has remained unchanged at 4.7per cent.
The bonus was an extra $470,000 to help the Cranbourne Football Club and Devon Meadows Junior Football Club settle into new facilities at Casey Fields. The money, from redistributed funds, will be spent on a lighting upgrade, extra toilets and preparing ovals 4 and 5 for the Devon Meadows Junior Football Club.
The council had already foreshadowed borrowing $500,000 that had been allocated to a soccer precinct development at Grices Road, Berwick, and to extend the pavilion at Casey Field's ovals 2 and 3 to give the Cranbourne Football Club a winter home base.
