PAKENHAM'S new skate park has been vandalised twice in three weeks, leaving the council to repair landscaping and remove unsightly graffiti.
Weeks after its official opening, vandals have scrawled graffiti on the $250,000 half-pipe structures and tore out trees and shrubs.
Despite being disappointed by the vandalism acts, Cardinia Council spokesman Paul Dunlop said the council would not build a fence around the facility nor charge users' fees.
"The skate park is a free facility, which has been developed as part of the PB Ronald Reserve master plan.
"Council is working with police to counteract antisocial behaviour in the area."
Mr Dunlop said some of the removed trees were being rehabilitated off-site and would be planted at a later date.
Brett Owen, a Cardinia councillor and member of the Cardinia Graffiti Reference Group, said it was disappointing that a minority of people had treated the facility with such disregard.
"It's just a small group who have decided to commit this criminal damage. The majority of people use the park responsibly and it is disappointing to see the damage taking place."
Cr Owen encouraged people to report any damage to the council. "If [people] see any antisocial behaviour contact the police straight away, particularly if it is late at night."
