Shock at vicious attack

17 Dec, 2007 07:58 AM
THE shooting of a cat in Cranbourne South the day after the torture and sexual abuse of a Berwick cat has shocked animal welfare officers, who fear the offenders could strike again.

A 12-month-old pet cat was burnt and suffered horrific internal injuries when it was abused last Saturday week. The next day, a four-year-old cat was found paralysed on the owner's large property with a bullet through its spine.

RSPCA inspector Greg Boland, who investigated the Berwick attack, said he was sickened by extent of the abuse. The cat was euthanised with the owner's consent due to the severity of its injuries.

Mr Boland said the cat had been sexually abused.

He said offenders who committed such acts were "in the same vein as pedophiles" and could strike again.

He appealed to anyone with information to contact police or the RSPCA.

"People who do this sort of thing are a danger to the community and really must be stopped."

The owner of the Cranbourne South cat, Michelle Williams, told the Journal she feared for her family's safety.

"Someone is out there with a gun and that is very scary. We have a 10-month-old baby, so it's a real concern that someone was on our property with a gun."
