 Second term for Casey mayor

Second term for Casey mayor

10 Dec, 2007 07:07 AM
JANET Halsall is the new mayor of the City of Casey.

The River Gum Ward councillor beat Cr Rob Wilson for the top job and assumed the role for the second time after a previous term from 1999 to 2000.

Cr Halsall said "it is a great honour" to be elected mayor for the second time and "I am very proud".

She pledged to govern with even-handedness, stating "as mayor, I will govern for the benefit of the entire community.

"I am also committed to working in partnership with my councillor colleagues, as well as the chief executive officer and council staff, to deliver the city's vision."

She said she had particular issues of interest and concern for the city.

"These include enticing business and employment to Casey. It's vitally important that we foster more job opportunities for our residents so that they can work closer to home and not have to travel long distances to work.

"I am also committed to facilitating services for Casey's growing population of older residents.

"We already do fantastic work in this area through our community care and ageing positively in Casey plan; however, there is more we can do and I look forward to supporting initiatives in this area of the council's service provision."
