PLANS are afoot to totally rebuild Emerald Primary School, with funding to come from state and federal government programs.
Principal Mark Carver said the school's inclusion in the State Government Building Futures program was good news for the staff and students.
He said a rebuilding of facilities would ensure the school could offer a modern and flexible working environment for its 410 students and fit in with the school's vision.
"We had concerns with the quality of physical learning at the school and had expressed these concerns to the Department of Education.
"We encourage a team-learning environment for the pupils and at present we have a lot of older-style isolated classrooms."
Mr Carver said that under the program, the State Government would fund stages two and three of redevelopment if approved in the annual budget.
"We are hoping for a pre-election announcement and it would be great if it could be included in the next budget, or the one after that."
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said the redevelopment would be considered in the budget once designs and costings for the rebuilding were complete and there had been community consultation.
"I have worked closely with the school over the past few years to ascertain what is needed to improve the learning environment and deliver better students' outcomes.
The Federal Government funded stage one rebuilding at the school under the Building the Education Revolution program.
