Room for more programs at Big House

30 Mar, 2009 10:56 AM
Pakenham's Big House Communities is expanding its programs and extending its reach to Dandenong and Warragul to meet growing demand.

Director of the not-for-profit charity Andre Van Eymeren said activities have been expanded to include water-colour painting, scrapbooking and discussion groups focusing on effective living.

"What we've seen is a need to bring people together and this can be done by offering people low-cost activities that they enjoy," he said.

Big House's new activities are in addition to a weekday lunch program from noon-1pm, an Tuesday to Saturday evening meal service and the Treloar Lane op-shop.

Big House's op shop manager Carmel Richardson urged people to "spend up big" in the store because all money raised would go to helping the community.

She said more volunteers were needed.

"You'll have the satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference in the community," she said.

Big House Communities is at 4-5 Treloar Lane, Pakenham. Details: Alex Draghici, 0422600913.
