Roadworks to boost safety

27 Oct, 2008 10:41 AM
COMPLETION of the $17 million duplication of Berwick-Cranbourne Road at Clyde North is expected to provide safer and easier conditions for motorists.

Roads and Ports parliamentary secretary Martin Pakula inspected progress on Wednesday, with works being finalised at the new Thompsons Road roundabout.

Mr Pakula said the duplication included a new two-lane roundabout at the Thompsons Road intersection and traffic signals at the Grices Road intersection to improve traffic flow.

The project is the next stage of the duplication of Berwick-Cranbourne Road, between the Princes Freeway at Berwick and the South Gippsland Highway.

Patrols lead to theft charges

PATROLS targeting south-eastern railway stations has led to four arrests for car theft-related offences.

Two youths, aged 15 and 16, were arrested at Hallam railway station and charged with attempting to steal cars.

On the same day, two men were arrested at Berwick railway station while trying to leave the car park in a stolen vehicle.

The men, 31 and 35, caught the attention of the police when they reversed into another vehicle. Both were charged with car theft and criminal damage.
