Roadworks and the arts feature in election promises

20 Nov, 2007 02:26 PM
THE BUSY Princes Highway and Old Princes Highway intersection will be given a $2million upgrade under a re-elected Liberal Government, LaTrobe MP Jason Wood announced last week.

"This intersection has been identified by local council as a very dangerous intersection. Currently it requires motorists heading towards the Beaconsfield town centre to make an extremely difficult right-hand turn, as traffic has to cross the existing freeway," he said.

The funding will pay for traffic lights.

In other election promises, Mr Wood has pledged more than $36.6million to local projects including $53,000 to redevelop scouting halls; $2.5million to build the Emerald Secondary College performing arts centre; $25million towards the duplication of Clyde Road and $5million for noise barriers in Beaconsfield.

La Trobe Labor candidate Rodney Cocks said the Liberal Party had had long enough to prove its worth, but was instead "throwing money around to buy its way back into office".

He said WorkChoices, education, health care, disability and aged-care pension, child care, the environment, cost of living and local infrastructure projects were the biggest issues facing LaTrobe residents.
