Riders saddle up to keep a tradition

30 Mar, 2009 10:55 AM
CASEY's Riding of the Bounds is back on track after being cancelled last year due to wet conditions.

The tradition, which has been held in Casey's sister city, Berwick-Upon-Tweed in the United Kingdom, for more than 550 years, has been re-enacted in Casey since 1988 and usually attracts about 200 riders.

The riding course is about 15kilometres and takes about 2 hours to complete, starting and finishing at Akoonah Park, Berwick and travelling through Casey and Cardinia.

Casey's manager arts and leisure, Robyn Bowen, said the event was open to riders of all levels.

"It is not a competition ride, but rather a wonderful day out for everyone involved."

After the ride, there will be a barbecue lunch and awards ceremony with prizes in various categories.

The event starts at 10am on Sunday, April 19 at Akoonah Park, Berwick.

Registrations open at 8am.

Early-bird discounts apply for registrations before this Wednesday. Details: 97055200 or to register visit www.casey.vic.gov.au
