Red arrow plan points to safer intersection

28 Apr, 2008 03:24 PM
VICROADS is investigating a change to the light sequence at a Berwick intersection where a child was struck by a car two weeks ago.

A pupil, 10, was crossing the Princes Highway at intersection of Parkhill Drive and Mansfield Street on a green pedestrian light when he was hit by the car. The driver was also facing a green light, but pedestrians have right of way.

The boy's mother said the existing light system "was ridiculous."

VicRoads Metropolitan south east regional director Steve Brown said the safety of the intersection had been assessed.

"A number of improvement options are currently being investigated, including the possibility of fully controlling the north-to-west right turn (red arrow) to improve safety for pedestrians."
