Race for jobs on track

28 Sep, 2009 09:51 AM
THE State Government's decision to fast-track the redevelopment of the Pakenham Racecourse and its relocation to Tynong will help to create more than 350 jobs in Cardinia Shire.

Planning Minister Justin Madden has referred the proposed project to the Priority Development Panel, which assesses significant projects on a case-by-case basis.

The relocation of the racecourse to a 580-hectare site in Longwarry Road, Tynong, is expected to cost about $40 million.

The proposal for a state-of-the-art course includes a turf and synthetic race track, extensive car and float parking, stables and trainer quarters, an education and equine centre, horse sales facilities and a hotel.

Plans are in place to redevelop the existing racecourse site in Pakenham to a mixed-use commercial and residential precinct.
