A BEACONSFIELD man is one of more than 400 people to have their lives saved by a new clinic at the Monash Medical Centre.
Frank Monaco, 63, was treated for serious heart disease within days of being assessed at the MonashHeart Rapid Chest Pain Assessment Clinic in Clayton.
Professor Ian Meredith, director of MonashHeart, last month announced the results from the first six months of the clinic, which diagnoses heart problems more quickly and can help prevent heart attacks and death.
"Mr Monaco was walking around with two severe narrowings, which he could have easily had a heart attack and died from," Professor Meredith said.
"Luckily, this new clinic fast tracks the system for cardiac assessment, diagnosis, treatment, risk factor modification and follow-up.
"Instead of waiting for weeks for an assessment and diagnosis, Mr Monaco was seen and operated on within a few days. It saved his life."
RCPAC, which opened in July, is screening about 21 patients a week.
It provides same day and/or early access to various cardiac tests, including exercise stress testing, stress echocardiography or cardiac CT.
"The MonashHeart RCPAC offers an unparalleled cardiologist-led service, giving the cardiologist the ability to make a diagnosis and treatment plan the very day the patient is seen in the clinic," Professor Meredith said.
