Police tick for patrons

16 Mar, 2010 11:30 AM
PAKENHAM police have praised the behaviour of patrons at this year's Pakenham Cup and reported only a few minor incidents of drunkeness.

Senior Sergeant Alan McCarthy said the 4000-strong crowd were well-behaved and there were no indications of any issues with patrons leaving the racecourse after the event.

"We had a strong traffic presence in and around the course but no indications there were any problems.

"Crowd behaviour was excellent and co-operation between the police, Cardinia Club and the Pakenham Racing Club helped in a successful day - the way it should be."

Senior Sergeant McCarthy said police were dealing with one incident that occurred earlier in the day.

He said an altercation between two patrons known to each other - a Pakenham man, 40, and a Garfield man, 46 - had led to some physical injuries and was being investigated.

No charges, as yet, have been laid.
