Police quash boarding house rumours

18 Aug, 2008 02:53 PM
VICTORIA Police has issued a statement denying involvement in plans to convert a former child-care centre in Pakenham into a 17-room boarding house.

Acting Inspector Alan McCarthy said Victoria police had no involvement in the Dunbarton Drive facility and wanted to clarify any misconception about police running or developing the property.

"Some members of the community have expressed concern about the boarding house.

"If they have any matter that they wish to raise about policing issues in Cardinia they can contact me at Pakenham Police station on 5945 2500."

Acting Inspector McCarthy said if people were concerned about the location and operation of a boarding house they should contact Cardinia Council. An application lodged at the council seeks to convert the Dunbarton Drive property into a 17-room boarding house.

Residents have lodged a petition with the council objecting to the application. No date has been set for a decision.

To view the application or speak to planning staff, contact 1300 787 624.
