A MAJOR disability service provider in Pakenham will receive funding to employ a co-ordinator to help clients access community services and programs.
Outlook One, a program run by Outlook Community Services, received the boost as part of a State Government package under the Changing Days program, which helps organisations reassess how day services are provided to people with a disability.
Co-manager of Outlook One, Julianne Ward, said the co-ordinator would help its clients lead more independent lives.
"Whether the client wants to join a particular social group, or learn a new skill at a community centre, or simply learn how to access public transport to get to places, they will be supported by us.
"The role for the person we employ will involve extensive community consultation and education on disability awareness."
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato welcomed the funding, saying the Government and agencies were focused on services "that support people to be actively engaged with their community and give people with a disability, their families and carers active decision-making about how they are supported".
As well as leading more independent lives, the program aims to give Outlook clients a sense of belonging to their community, Ms Ward said.
