New zone to get tails wagging

27 Jul, 2009 09:48 AM
BORED dogs and their owners in Cardinia can let their hair down at another leash-free zone.

The off-leash area at Toomuc Creek Reserve in Pakenham can now be used from 7am-7pm Monday to Friday.

The extended hours on a 12-month trial basis.

The designated area has also been extended, now covering the walking track, reserve perimetre fencing and southern football oval.

Central ward councillor Collin Ross said with backyards getting smaller, dogs needed more area to run-free.

"This encourages people to walk their dogs and get fit at the same time."

He said regular canine groups had been using Toomuc Reserve in a "controlled and respectful" manner.
