New rules on advertising

29 Jun, 2009 11:19 AM
TIGHTER advertising guidelines have been adopted by Cardinia Shire Council in an attempt to control signage across the municipality.

The new guidelines focus on the quantity of signage and they way it can be displayed.

Councillors voted unanimously to pass the guidelines, which include a ban on the use of shipping containers for advertising.

Cr Brett Owen said advertising on the side of containers, as seen in large numbers along the Pakenham Bypass, was unattractive and not appropriate.

"There has been some signage around the shire that is unacceptable and I am pleased these guidelines will give direction to the council and to those applying for signage permits," he said.

Cr Collin Ross agreed, saying visitors to Cardinia Shire may be forgiven for thinking the bypass was an advertising zone.

The signage policy also applies to A-frame, mobile and trailer signage but does not affect advertising at recreation reserves.
