New role for MP

29 Sep, 2008 02:15 PM
LA TROBE MP Jason Wood has been named as the shadow parliamentary secretary for justice and public security.

His portfolio, announced in the coalition shadow ministry last week, includes public safety and counter-terrorism issues and issues relating to the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Crime Commission.

Mr Wood said he was "honoured by this appointment'' and intended to keep the Government accountable on public security and counter-terrorism in Australia.

Mr Wood was formerly a senior sergeant with the Victorian counter-terrorism co-ordination unit. He was also deputy chair of the parliamentary joint committee on the Australian Crime Commission.
