WOLFE Bowart has always known he can make people laugh.
Whether it's magic, comedy, acting, writing or circus skills, Bowart is a master.
The jack of all trades brings his latest show Letter's End to the Drum Theatre next month.
"It's about a man at the dead letter office and he has been burning the packages," he explains. "But one day a package tears open and a teddy bear falls out and he remembers something.
"He realises that these packages are his memories and he has just been burning them. Then he finds himself looking back on his life from this surreal world."
Bowart says the show came about because of his own fascination with memory.
"I have always been interested in the way memories are held. Like how people can have a favourite piece of clothing or photos and you look at them and they hold no memory for us but they do for someone else."
He says it fascinates him how people can have "a drawer" full of memories.
"It can be drawings from the kids, or old glasses with the lens missing."
He says that while he has had many 'memory drawers' throughout his life, his favourite items are postcards.
"They are so interesting. We tend not to write as many as my parents did or my grandparents. But because I tour all the time I send postcards, and when they are hand-written they hold a lot of meaning."
Bowart says his favourite thing about Letter's End is its ability to cross generations.
"It has really played well with the grandparents and the littlies. It is interesting to have people in their 60s and 70s come up and say, 'wow, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time', or that it had brought memories back for them.
"The show is fairly cursory, fast paced and fun yet it has that element of memory and looking back, so it resonates with everyone."
Letter's End is on at 11.30am and 6pm July 9 at the Drum Theatre, Dandenong. Tickets: $15 or members $13 or families of four $55. Bookings: 97716666 or www.drumtheatre.com.au
