RESIDENTS of Cardinia Shire have been invited to have their say on the development of a motor recreation and education park in Pakenham.
A feasibility study - the first step in assessing the viability and suitability of the project - has been distributed to residents near the proposed site.
Cardinia Shire chief executive Garry McQuillan said a triangular-shaped parcel of land, which abuts the Pakenham Bypass and the railway line, had been earmarked for the park.
He said flora and fauna studies and an Aboriginal cultural heritage walkover had been carried out at the investigation site.
"If the report concludes the facility is feasible, then we will hold a public meeting, especially for residents in nearby Ryan Road, to determine if the site is the most suitable."
Mayor Bill Pearson said a vital part of the study would be to investigate issues of noise, planning controls, environmental concerns and access to the park.
"Noise emissions would have to meet strict international standards for any proposal to proceed," Cr Pearson said.
The chairwoman of the motorsports committee, Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato, said the feasibility study was a first step in ensuring the right mix of activities and programs was achieved and would ensure all design elements were right.
Competition motorsports would represent a maximum of 15 per cent of activities at the park.
The park would also host youth driver training, TAFE programs, media broadcast production and motor industry-related courses.
The study has been partly funded by Cardinia Council with help from the State Government, Chisholm TAFE and individuals.
