Metal thieves tap into water meters

29 Sep, 2008 02:15 PM
A SPATE of water meter thefts has prompted the Casey police to warn residents to look out for thieves.

More than 100 meters have been stolen in the Cranbourne, Narre Warren and Pakenham areas in the past six months.

Most of the meters have been taken from new estates and houses under construction.

Detective Senior Constable Dave Measham said thieves were most likely taking the meters for their scrap metal value.

"We want residents to be vigilant and be wary of people lurking around front yards in new estates,'' he said.
