TRAFFIC lights have been switched on along McGregor Road in Pakenham as the first stage of duplication works near completion.
Detailed designs are close to being finalised for the second stage of works at the northern end of the road, including a pedestrian crossing at the railway line.
Central ward councillor Collin Ross said the traffic lights near Henry Road had made it safer for residents to move in and out of nearby housing estates.
He has joined a call for safer pedestrian access across the railway line near Henty Street.
Earlier this month, Cr Ross led a delegation of residents from Heritage Springs estate to discuss safety for school pupils with Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky.
The second stage of works will include road duplication from Henty Road to Princes Highway, pedestrian lights at Cunningham Crescent and realignment of the Main Street intersection.
